Comforts

I have had a horrible day. I am allergic to cats but having my parents cat, Dora, on my lap is calming and makes me miss my cat, Cyndi (she died in 2002).

My daughter

I should really think about photographing someone other than my own kid. I am terrible with photographing people. I really am but at least I found that out now.

This is Carley at her favorite park, Hovander. She now knows...when mom has a camera, stop and pose. The great thing about this is that she stopped moving for all of 2.5 seconds.

Train sunrise

This sunrise is taken from a train somewhere between Oregon and California. It's hard to tell where it was...most likely it was the first ring of hell (this vacation was the very definition of hell).

Either way, I was able to get this picture, which I like.

Landscape

As I sat in the parking lot of Anthonys, I was intrigued to the "skyline" overlooking the water.

Lonely boat

Boulevard Park is one of our favorite places to go to, summer or winter. It has rocks, beaches, dogs, the train, kite flying. We live it. One day we stumbled upon this boat on the beach. It was out of place. Yet it looked like it belonged.

Keep Calm

My husband is my biggest supporter. He believes in me even when I don't. He encourages me when I'm stuck and I love having him in my corner.

My new mantra that I have hanging...

Dreams

To win the lottery. It would be great, wouldn't it? Even though I know my chances are zero, I love that time between buying my ticket and finding out the numbers.

What would I do if I won? Would I quit my job? Would I tell people right away? What would I do with the money? Travel...house...cars...take care of those I love? I love the fantasy aspect of lottery tickets. I'll continue to buy and maybe, one day, I'll win.

Rainbow

I'm struggling lately to be inspired outside of my comfort zone. I found this at the Dakota Art store downtown. I love how it naturally looks like its zooming for you.

Hair washing

I have vivid memories of my mom washing my hair in the kitchen sink. We do the same at my house and Carley giggles because she says it tickles.

Tonight she asked if she could wash my hair in the sink. Guess I know what we're doing this weekend.

In all fairness my husband took this picture. I was at a loss today. But I did do the processing of it

Full Moon

This was on my way to work one morning. I have lived in Bellingham my entire life and I am still amazed at how beautiful it is here.

This particular area fascinates me because it's starting to look run down since GP closed and there's a huge ship docked that hasn't moved in at least 18 months, maybe longer.

I love how you can go to parts of town inundated with people and then times like this...not a soul to be found, just a few miles away.

I love Bellingham. I really do.

Photo Contest

This picture is currently a finalist in a photo contest. I took this picture less than a year ago, in my back yard.

With my phone.

There are scores of people who believe photos are the creation of the camera and if you buy an expensive camera you will be able to get instant great shots.

It's like saying if you buy the same guitar as Eddie VanHalen you'll be able to play like Eddie VanHalen. Sounds ridiculous when you say it that way, doesn't it?

Becoming a finalist came at the right time. As much as I love doing this project I'm having a hard time finding myself, my style. Anyone can take a picture of a sunset, I need to figure out what my style is, what sets me apart because lately I am feeling dejected and ready to give up.

I always thought photos should evoke an emotion an today I read one quote about this photo that brings me to tears..."this picture reminds me that one day I will be reunited with my little boy"

Supermoon

I waited for 2 hours for the "supermoon". I haven't been out shooting with my Nikon in forever. Sadly the night disappointed me in so many ways. And I hate to say it but the Nikon is going back on the shelf where it's going to keep on collecting dust. That's a different post for a different day...

...not a total loss. I got some beautiful water shots.

My baby no more

My baby. Not a baby anymore. This is from when I was on maternity leave so not really a current picture but I love it. It reminds me of those months I had to learn everything I needed to learn to raise a human.

Every day I learn more. She has taught me so much, mostly she taught me that love has no limits.

Lonely Road

I love driving when there's no one else on the road. I love going where there's few cars and fewer people. It's amazing what you see when you drive to explore.

Goofiness

My kid cracks me up. The one thing she does that creeps me out is crosses her eyes. The fact that it creeps me out cracks her up.

Beaches

Around here there are 2 things to know about our beaches:

1. They aren't sandy
2. If you wait til it warm to explore a beach, you will wait until a one week span in August when the sun is out.

Until then we explore our beaches in the rain and with rain boots.

We love to explore the beaches at Boulevard Park. Mostly we like to throw rocks in the water so I always bring a bucket.

And rain boots are a must.

Herald Building

The Herald Building is one of those iconic buildings in town. For me it has been a part of my life since childhood.

My best friend, Cheryl, had a paper route. Because she was my best friend I delivered her route with her on weekends for no money. I helped collect money with her and I got nothing from it (except knowing I didn't want my own route).

My first job interview was at the Herald when I was 19 (my other jobs were gained through a friend or family). Oh. I didn't get the job there either.

Then about 10 years ago I posed for and was featured on the front page of the Take Five section. I was such a great model they never asked me back.

Geez, now that I think about it, I think I hate The Herald. Sheesh.

Portrait

I don't do a lot of portraits....if you don't count self portraits or my daughter. I caught this yesterday. While it's not a traditional portrait, I love it! My daughter has beautiful eyes.

Pop Rocks

Do you ever come across something from your childhood that is as awesome as you remember? Does it make you feel like a kid again?

I know pop rocks haven't gone away completely but I came across them at Target and thought my daughter (4) would love them as much as I do.

She doesn't. She just *gasp* eats them! You don't EAT pop rocks, you let them sit in your mouth, popping. You bite down on the big ones for big pops. And when the popping slows, then, and only then, do you eat them.

She has so much to learn. A mom's job is never done.

Lines

This is an odd picture, but I like it. I like how the lines draw you from the bottom left to the upper right. I like how, at the end of winter, I can find leaves in the street as if it was still fall.

It's not a gorgeous photo but I like it. I think it's interesting. Thoughts?

Signs

These are signs hanging in my brothers house. I used the retouch and Old photo pro apps to change this picture. There were 2 lightswitches that I removed and then I added the old school feel to match the style of the signs. I like the way it turned out.

It can be hard to find different subjects to photograph. I admit every day is not my best work. I'm trying to get out of my comfort zone (sunsets, landscapes, etc.). One of these days I'll attempt to photograph a person. A real. live. person. *gasp*

Road trip

When I was a kid all our vacations were road trips. One even was a horribly staged "action photo" road trip. We had to pose EVERYWHERE.

I love driving on the open road. My first vacation with chris was a road trip. We survived it and even came home engaged. I hope we can take some family road trips with Carley and hopefully leave the iPods behind. There's so much to see.

I love this picture because of how you can see the road zooming by yet it's still in the mirror.

Teds

My mom and dad bought my brother and I stuffed animals for Valentine's Day when we were really little.

My brother Jason named his bear, Teds. Teds has been stuffed a million times. Teds has seen many moves and been hugged at least a million times.

Teds is almost 40 years old and is still around.

I am pretty sure that if there was a fire at Jason's house, Teds would be the first thing saved.

Hands

Years and years ago I was into crafts. I found a kit which could make a mold of anything then you pour plaster inside. The mold was one time because you had to rip it apart to get your piece out.

I decided to make a mold of Chris and my hands. It has some flaws but I'm amazed that 1) I could get chris to do it and 2) it turned out so cool. It has traveled from our last apartment to our house and has been on display since.

I have 2 more kits and hopefully when Carley is old enough to hold still for 5 minutes I can make a mold of her hands.

M-I-C-K-E-Y M-O-U-S-E

I love Mickey Mouse. My first date with my husband, we went back to his house to watch movie and I walked in and saw a miniature Mickey Mouse on his TV. I knew he was the one for me right then.

This Mickey was given to me by my friend Monica, who is more like a sister to me.

Looking right

"Things should look right."

This is my wedding ring and a page in my book, One Day.

"Things should look right...no more sadness than absolutely necessary..."

Honestly this was just a shot I tried. I guess I should have picked a more appropriate book to go with my wedding ring but I was just playing around and ended up liking why I got.

One of my first photos, back when I was convinced I was an awesome photographer.

I still like it but I'd probably shoot it differently now.
